Birthdays. What does it really mean? For years I didn’t regard it to be important. If you think about it, it is just another day. Another day or another year that has passed by. And then what? Has it brought more meaning?
This birthday I chose to celebrate – to honour my existence because I am grateful to be alive. Yes, it sounds silly but I am alive as a human being and it is only though this human body that I can contribute to life; make a difference, be a better me, experience calmness and tranquility, and write all about it! ?
I am truly humbled by the love that has been given to me from days prior to my birthday. As it’s been shared on Facebok, it started with my senior students (17-18 years old). Yes, I know they look like 12-year olds! They surprised me with their kindness, love and a yummy cake! The day progressed with a night with my two gorgeous spiritual sisters. The love being poured was overwhelming. Today it continues with a relaxing and beachy day with the man of my dreams.
This birthday, I realised how giving people are. It reminded me that love is about giving. Countless people like you have taken a moment to share your love and blessings today which has reminded me that love is about touching other people with kindness and love.
I ask the Divine to guide me in this precious life given to me to touch as many lives as I can. So when I leave, I have left this world not just being remembered but that this world is in a better state because I was able to contribute in some little way.
I remember Rabten said as we give we are creating merits for our next lifetime. Simply because our so called luck or good life today isn’t given to us because we are lucky but more because we did some good karma previously. As we do more good stuff it gets stored and in some unknown way, these good stuff brings moments of easy life whether it’s through having enough money, good health, a nice house etc. Selfish I know. I would not want to be reborn as a child labourer working my life away or in a poverty stricken place fighting to survive and in the search for food. Searching for peace or working towards enlightenment would be a far fetched thought. So really as I give to others I am also giving to myself in more ways than one. The immediate returns of giving is that it brings me joy seeing others happy but also the fact that as I give to others I give myself a better future whether it is in this lifetime or lifetimes after.
Today I am reminded by the love I am receiving by you all to give to others. Through love and kindness I am able to honour my life and in return honour you all. Thank you for reminding me what life is and that there is no greater truth to life than love and kindness. ???
